ASHP Partners with HHS on Patient Safety, Performance Measure Initiatives

Jun 14, 2011

ASHP has joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a group of leading hospital, provider, and patient groups in an effort to improve the quality, safety, and affordability of health care.

The Partnership for Patients: Better Care, Lower Costs initiative aims to save more than 60,000 lives over the next three years by stopping preventable injuries and complications in patient care. Prevention of adverse drug reactions is one of the areas targeted for attention.

In other news, ASHP has been appointed as a voting member of the National Quality Forum’s Measure Applications Partnership Hospital Workgroup (MAP). MAP was created to provide input to HHS on the selection of performance measures for public reporting and performance-based payment programs.
